Dr. Cameron was born in Henderson and moved to Portland, Oregon, while his father attended dental school. The family then returned to the Las Vegas valley, where he graduated from Las Vegas High School. He then attended Brigham Young University, served a proselyting mission in Norway and later graduated from Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Cameron and Janet have eight children between them, with twenty-six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
