Dr. Michaels Dental Care Follow
A Letter From Dr. Michaels “For most people, choosing a dentist is a pretty big decision. They understand that dental care is an ongoing process, so they want a practitioner that they can be comfortable with and can count on to do what’s best for them and their teeth in the long run. It’s really a matter of trust…in my sensitivity to your needs…my overall abilities as a practitioner…and my professionalism. I take that trust very seriously because I consider my patients to be members of our dental family here. That’s why putting patients at ease about their dental needs has been a top priority for me since I began practicing in 1985. In order to make your dental care experience as positive as possible, I believe in a gentle, caring approach to all procedures. I also believe in outlining all the options available to you, so we can decide together what’s best for your particular situation. Above all, I want you to know that you can turn to me for all your dental needs. From tooth whitening to oral surgery, I’m skilled in the latest procedures. After all, my education as a dentist didn’t end the minute I got my diploma. As a health care professional, I feel it’s my responsibility to continue to learn about all the latest treatments in dentistry. There are new advances and better forms of treatment being discovered all the time, and I owe it to my patients to be fully knowledgeable about all of them. That’s one reason why I’m active in so many professional organizations. It’s through my membership in these professional organizations that I’m able to learn a great deal of information on new advances in dentistry to help me better serve my patients. I’m grateful to the dental community for all that it’s given me. And I believe in giving back to the community that’s been so good to me. In addition to being personally rewarding, passing on knowledge to colleagues and future dentists helps make me a more well-rounded practitioner. If you would like to know more, or would like to arrange an initial visit and consultation, please call us today. My team of professionals and I look forward to welcoming you to our dental care family.” Sincerely, James Michaels, DDS

Emergency Services
When you’ve had a dental emergency, our office can help you get the care you need quickly. Dr. Michaels will do an exam and diagnose the problem and then give you your treatment options. We know that emergencies can be very stressful, and our office will always do our best to make the experience a little bit easier! If you have had a dental emergency or injury to your mouth, Oconomowoc Dental Center can see you the same day. We always make our emergency patients our first priority. Just call first thing in the morning to schedule an appointment if you have a toothache or if you sustained an injury to the mouth. Dr. Michaels will take care of your emergency that day.

Bridges
If you are missing a tooth, we strongly recommend getting it replaced. Replacing a missing tooth not only makes your smile look beautiful, it also helps maintain the structural integrity of your jaw and mouth. Dental bridges are an easy solution to replacing missing teeth. A dental bridge uses your existing surrounding teeth as anchors to hold the replacement crowns in place. The bridges are small abutments made of either gold or porcelain to ensure their strength and durability. Our dental bridges are custom made to ensure a perfect fit. First, abutments will be made using your existing teeth where the bridge will be attached. Most often crowns will be placed on the surrounding existing teeth to reinforce their strength. Then, an impression or digital picture will be made of your mouth and sent to a lab where your bridge is made individually for you. Because the bridge is made from a mold of your mouth, it should fit as closely to you as possible to feel like natural teeth. We will fit you with a custom temporary bridge as you wait for your permanent bridge to be made. This will temporarily fill your smile and protect your abutments and gums. Once your permanent bridge is finished, you will have another appointment to place the final bridge. We will use a strong adhesive to make sure that the final bridge is set. Some bridges can be made on-site in our lab depending on size. Your new bridge may take a few days to get used to, but after a few days you will be loving having a functioning, whole smile! For the first few days after the placement of your permanent bridge, we recommend that you only eat soft foods. After the initial few days, you can eat whatever you want!

Cleaning & Exams
Regular dental cleanings and exams are an essential part of maintaining good oral health! We recommend coming in for bi-annual check ups to keep your mouth in good health. The frequency of these appointments allows us to diagnose any potential issues early on, making treatment much easier! During our gentle cleanings, our hygienists use special tools that can reach those areas in your mouth that are impossible to get to on your own with just a toothbrush. This is allows us to thoroughly clean your teeth, getting rid of bacteria-filled plaque and tartar buildup that leads to decay. After your cleaning, your mouth will feel smooth and rejuvenated! We take great care in performing thorough exams that allow us to assess your oral health, diagnose any problems, and formulate a treatment plan for you and with you. During each dental exam, we screen for oral cancer. Frequent exams are important because early detection of oral cancer is the best defense and has the highest success rate in overcoming it. Cleanings and exams are highly important, and you are in skilled and gentle hands when you visit us for yours!

Crowns
Sometimes teeth can be too worn down, cracked or decayed for a simple filling to be sufficient. Crowns are tooth coverings that may be necessary to save your tooth and make it strong again and more resilient to further damage. Crowns can be made of all porcelain, porcelain fused to metal, or full gold. For the most natural-looking results, we recommend a solid porcelain crown. It will blend in flawlessly with the rest of your smile and look just like one of your natural teeth. The process of getting a crown takes two office visits. During your first visit, we will reshape your existing tooth so it can fit your restoration perfectly. We will give you a local anesthetic during this procedure to ensure your comfort. An impression or digital picture is then taken of the tooth and the teeth surrounding it. This image will be sent to a dental lab where they will create your custom crown to fit your mouth perfectly. You will be fit with a temporary crown while you wait for your permanent restoration. On your second visit, we will place and cement your permanent crown! Your smile will look and feel beautiful with your new crown. Caring for your crown is just like caring for the rest of your natural teeth, with regular brushing and flossing and dental checkups.
