Family Dentistry
Regular Dental Health Checks are key to us providing you with the necessary support to help you maintain the health of your mouth and keep it free of tooth decay and gum disease.
All forms of preventive dentistry are important to maintaining your oral health. The conditions inside your mouth are also interlinked with other health aspects.
Thus it is important that along with taking care of your dental health regularly, you should also visit your dentist at least twice a year.
On a regular General Dentistry appointment, I will look at:
- Health of your gums
- Presence of plaque
- Health of the cheeks, lips and tongue (visual oral cancer check)
- Head and neck check (jaw, biting muscles, glands)
- Health and stability of previous dental restorations
Composite Bonding
A pearly smile is a necessary ingredient for achieving success in your personal and professional life. You feel more confident as you smile, and confidence lets you meet life’s challenges more effectively.
Even if your natural teeth are not ideal, there is no reason to restrain your ambitions. A composite bonding treatment can help you restore cracked and decayed teeth, as well as hide gaps between teeth painlessly and effortlessly.
Dr Juliane Scandian offers composite bonding treatments in Milton Keynes that provide patients with successful attachments between the filling material and the tooth’s original enamel and dentin.
What is Dental Composite Bonding?
Dental composite bonding is a leading cosmetic procedure that is full of restorative benefits. Using composite bonding resins, Dr Juliane Scandian can repair your chipped front teeth or hide minor aesthetic defects. Composite resins for bonding cracked teeth actually stick with your teeth changing shape.
Direct composite bonding is used to recreate a smile in an additive manner, where little or no tooth reduction is needed. Direct bonding, in the hands of a skilled operator, is less costly than porcelain veneers and crowns and can be long-lasting with proper maintenance.
Orthodontics
Straight teeth are healthy teeth — Teeth that are properly aligned are easier to keep clean with flossing and brushing, and may help prevent other health problems.
A beautiful, straight smile builds confidence — Orthodontic treatment can help boost your self-confidence, and give you a better quality of life and the freedom to smile without holding back!
Mouths left untreated can get worse — Not receiving orthodontic treatment when it’s needed can create long-term health issues that cost you more in the end.
Orthodontics for children
Although there is no exact age for children to begin orthodontic treatment, the ideal age to have braces is usually around 12 or 13, while a child’s mouth and jaws are still growing.
Early treatment enables:
Correct and guide the growth of your child’s jaw to help the permanent teeth come in straight
Regulate the width of the upper and lower arches
Create more space for crowded teeth
Avoid the need for permanent tooth extractions later in life
Correct thumb sucking and help improve minor speech problems
For parents, it’s not always easy to know whether your child may need orthodontic treatment.
Here are a few things to look for that may mean your son or daughter needs to see us:
Early or late loss of baby teeth
A hard time chewing or biting food
Mouth breathing
Finger or thumb sucking
Crowded, misplaced, or blocked teeth
Jaws that pop or make sounds when opening and closing
Teeth that come together abnormally, or do not come together at all
Jaws and teeth that are not proportionate to the rest of the face
Crowded front teeth around age seven or eight
Please contact our practice to schedule an appointment for an orthodontic evaluation. Early treatment now will give your little one a healthy, beautiful smile for the future.
Orthodontics for teens
Our clinic offers a variety of appliance types to choose from. Some common options include:
Ceramic braces
Invisalign
Lingual braces
Traditional metal braces
Orthodontic braces are a big part of life for many people your age. Though they may have had a bad reputation in the past, today’s braces make it easy to look good and feel good! Please contact our practice to schedule your next orthodontic checkup.
How long will I have to wear braces?
The amount of time it takes to treat your smile with braces depends on three key factors:
Early treatment — Early treatment allows our dental clinic to monitor the growth of the jaw and recommend further orthodontic treatment if it becomes necessary. Not everybody receives early orthodontic treatment; in some cases it may be recommended that a patient wait to receive treatment.
What needs correction — The amount of treatment needed to correct a problem will determine how long the process takes. Different patients react to treatments differently. While it may take one patient only 12 months to complete treatment, it may take another 24 months. Treatment times can vary, depending on how quickly your body responds and how much work is needed to give you the show-stopping smile you desire.
YOU! — Your willingness to use the appliances our dentist gives you plays a major role in the length of time it takes to complete your treatment. Always remember to take care of your braces and appliances; this truly will help make your treatment shorter!
Orthodontics for adults
Orthodontic treatment is no longer just for teens.
Many adults are choosing to receive treatment because they understand the importance of maintaining their health, and they want to feel better about their appearance. Adults everywhere are taking advantage of the opportunity to receive orthodontic care, and now you can too.
Common reasons why adults consider orthodontic treatment
A bad bite or malocclusion, which causes teeth to fit together incorrectly
Teeth are crowded or spaced apart, possibly causing tooth decay or gum disease
Abnormal jaw pain, or pressure that is caused by crooked teeth
A desire for a healthier mouth and a more confident smile
Treatment options for adults
For many adults, the thought of having metal braces is enough to discourage them from receiving treatment. However, today’s orthodontic treatment options offer a variety of braces and appliances that are comfortable, aesthetic, and customized to meet your needs. Types of braces include:
Invisalign
Clear braces
Self-ligating braces
Lingual braces (behind the tooth)
Surgical Orthodontics
Invisalign
Teeth that are not in proper alignment are not only unattractive, but this misalignment can also lead to improper forces and stresses on the teeth and jaw. This additional stress can lead to fractures and grinding as well as not being able to properly clean the teeth. Sorriso design is an Invisalign provider and offers the premier way to align teeth through the use of Invisalign aligners.
What Is Invisalign®?
Invisalign® aligners are custom made clear trays that gently and gradually move your teeth to a more ideal position.
Candidates For Invisalign
Adults and teens suffering from common dental problems may be candidates for Invisalign. The aligners are clear making Invisalign the premier orthodontic option for teens and adults who are looking for a nearly invisible solution to straighten their teeth.
Benefits Of Invisalign
Invisalign handles mild to moderate tooth movement needs without any of that. The most important thing for most teens is that, as the name implies, the Invisalign trays are basically invisible. When they’re on your teeth, no one can tell, even from close range when speaking to someone. No metal bands. No wires. It’s easy to forget you’re wearing the clear Invisalign aligners because they are so comfortable.
And Invisalign is simply easy. It’s easy to eat — you just take them out. It’s easy to keep them clean — you take them out and brush them with toothpaste. It’s easy to keep your teeth clean — take out the trays and brush and floss normally.
Bottom line? Our Boutique Sorriso Design patients love Invisalign. Plus, their time required to move their teeth is usually less than with traditional braces.
What Concerns Can Invisalign Correct?
Invisalign trays treat many different types of cases, including crowding, spacing, deep bite, and open bite.
How Are The Invisalign Clear Aligners Created?
After taking a series of photographs and impressions, we work with Invisalign to develop the best plan for your specific case as well as an estimate of your time commitment. The trays are to be worn on average 22-23 hours per day for optimal results.
The Invisalign Procedure
Once Dr Juliane and her team believe Invisalign would work for you, the first step is a full dental examination and analysis of your bite using the Invisalign digital scanning system. With this information, the system creates precise 3D images of the patient’s teeth. Using these images, we will then plot out the movement required. The Invisalign system allows the dentist to preview with the patient exactly how his or her teeth will progress through the entire treatment. This information is then digitally sent to the Invisalign office in the UK. The company takes the data and creates acrylic aligner trays.
When your aligners arrive at our Boutique Sorriso Design Dental Clinic in Milton Keynes, it’s time for your next appointment. We will explain how to use the aligners, along with care instructions and other pertinent information. Then he’ll give you the first few pairs of aligner trays and you head home.
All you do is wear the aligner trays for 20-22 hours every day for two weeks. Those trays put subtle pressure on your teeth, moving them without the pain that accompanies the tightening of wires with traditional braces. After two weeks, you discard those trays and switch to the next pair. At about six-week intervals, you’ll come to see us at Sorriso Design so we can monitor your progress and give you the next series of aligners.
Invisalign treats:
Crowded Teeth
Overbite
Underbite
Crossbite
Gap Teeth
Open Bite
Baby & Permanent Teeth
Generally Straighter Teeth
Root Canal Treatment
What is a root canal treatment?
Inside of each of your teeth is a pulp chamber in which can be found the blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue that help the roots of your teeth grow during development. When the pulp in this chamber becomes infected – known as an abscessed tooth – it becomes necessary to remove the infection in order to prevent tooth loss and other potentially serious consequences.
The procedure to remove the infection is known as root canal treatment or, more commonly, a root canal, and it is a safe, effective, and quick way to preserve the quality and appearance of your smile.
Symptoms that indicate a root canal treatment may be necessary include:
Throbbing toothache
Pain when chewing or biting
Heightened sensitivity to heat and cold
Persistent bad breath
Swelling of lymph nodes in the neck
Facial swelling
Fever
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you likely have an abscessed tooth. Left untreated, the infection can spread to the jaw and throughout the face, resulting in systemic infection. An untreated tooth abscess can also result in tooth loss, necessitating advanced restorative services to preserve the quality and function of the smile.
The Root Canal Treatment
To perform a root canal treatment, a small access hole will first need to be made. Through this hole, debris and infection can easily be removed. Once removed, the pulp chamber is filled with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. The same material is used to seal the small access hole. When necessary, antibiotics may be injected into the tooth as well, but this is not needed for every root canal procedure.
After the tooth has been cleaned and sealed, a dental crown is used to protect it from further damage. The dental crowns offered at our Sorriso Design Dental Clinic are shaped, coloured, and sized to fit perfectly into your smile, working to protect the weakened tooth without compromising aesthetics.
While conventional knowledge holds that a root canal treatment is unpleasant, the treatment is no more uncomfortable than a traditional filling. Far from causing pain, root canal treatments relieve pain and prevent future discomforts as well. However, if you are nervous about having a root canal treatment in Milton Keynes, we would be happy to discuss sedation dentistry options during your treatment consultation.
What can I eat after a root canal?
After a root canal, try to eat soft foods that require little chewing, like yogurts, eggs, and fish. Avoid hot or hard foods that might hurt your teeth. Sorriso Design dentists will suggest you to not eat for a few hours until the numbness in your mouth wears off so you don’t bite your cheek or tongue.
Teeth Whitening
Your smile is one of the first things a person will notice when you meet. If you have stained, dull, or discoloured teeth, teeth whitening may be an excellent option for you.
Even healthy teeth discolour over time. The leading causes of stained teeth are:
Genetics
Antibiotics
Tobacco
Certain foods
As we age, our teeth darken as well.
Teeth whitening is a simple and effective way to brighten your smile. You can look younger and feel more confident with a whiter smile.
Who can do teeth whitening?
Teeth whitening is a form of dentistry and should only be carried out by a dentist or another regulated dental professional, such as a dental hygienist or dental therapist, on the prescription of a dentist.
Some beauty salons offer teeth whitening, but this is illegal if there’s no dental professional present, and it may put your oral health at risk.
You can also buy DIY home teeth whitening kits but these may also carry risks.
Whether you are self-conscious because you have yellowed teeth from smoking or drinking coffee, or if you just want to look your best, tooth whitening is a sure way to brighten your smile and gain increased confidence in your appearance.
Some of the benefits of teeth whitening may include:
Easiest anti-ageing procedure yet discovered
Confers confidence and self-esteem
The most conservative way to whiten teeth
Easy to maintain
Oral health care is improved
How To Maintain Your Teeth Whitening Results?
All teeth whitening options provided by our cosmetic dental practice in Milton Keynes are designed to be long-lasting. How you care for your teeth after treatment will, however, have a more direct role in the amount of time your results are visible than anything our dentists can do.
Fortunately, maintaining teeth whitening results is relatively easy. In many cases, it doesn’t even require much adjustment to routines you already have in place. You can work towards keeping your teeth bright and beautiful by:
Not smoking, chewing, or otherwise using products with nicotine
Reducing your intake of coffee, tea, and red wine
Drinking sodas and sports drinks through a straw
Reducing your intake of dark foods like berries and sauces
Washing away stain causers with foods that stimulate saliva production such as apples, strawberries, celery, carrots, and pears
Swishing water in your mouth after eating or drinking so that stain causers don’t sit on your teeth
In addition to these steps, you can help keep your teeth white by brushing after every meal and snack with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a slightly abrasive toothpaste. Remember, some types of toothpaste can scratch and damage dental restorations.
We offer Pärla® tabs at our office, a gentle next-generation eco-friendly toothpaste that helps fight sensitivity. It contains Vitamin E & B12 to support a healthy immune system.
Proper dental hygiene can go a long way in keeping your teeth stain-free. Good teeth cleaning habits will fight the presence of cavity-causing bacteria and the food debris that leads to yellowing. Part of a solid oral hygiene routine is twice-yearly visits to our dental practice in Milton Keynes for professional cleanings and examinations. During these visits, we will help you maintain your tooth whitening results by removing surface stains and gently polishing your teeth. If it has been more than six months since your last cleaning, call us today to schedule your next appointment.
Is Teeth Whitening Bad For Your Teeth?
Teeth whitening is not bad for your teeth. The bleaching process can, however, cause temporary tooth sensitivity. Some products available through cosmetic dentists are even formulated with potassium nitrate and fluoride to reduce sensitivity and increase enamel strength.
When whitening is completed with over-the-counter application trays, solution seepage may occur. This can irritate soft oral tissue and increase tooth sensitivity and is one of the many reasons it makes sense to work with a dentist when it’s time to whiten your teeth.
Dental Hygiene
Maintaining dental or oral hygiene and receiving regular dental check-ups are very important, and essential if you want to prevent any cavities, tooth decay, and common dental health diseases.
Dental/Oral hygiene procedures will help to improve your smile and keep your teeth clean.
There are great non-injectable options when it comes to caring for your teeth, but dental or tooth check-ups are the most efficient way.
Patients should always take the appropriate steps to reduce dental problems and practice good oral hygiene with proper brushing and flossing methods. For example, it’s important to brush teeth after eating any kind of sweets. People who brush their teeth regularly and receive comprehensive oral exams can even decrease their chances of a heart attack.
I take great pride in my dental hygiene abilities, making patients feel comfortable while performing excellent dental cleanings.
I reserve one hour for every cleaning. This allows adequate time for a thorough cleaning, any necessary X-rays, lessons in proper home care, and a complete check-up. Any patient with a history of periodontal disease will be carefully monitored for any relapses and treated accordingly.
My ultimate goal is that my patients keep all of their own teeth, and I am committed to doing my part in achieving that goal.
During a dental hygiene session, I will:
Perform a comprehensive examination
Thoroughly clean all surfaces of your teeth
Remove plaque, tartar and stains
Polish and floss your teeth
Provide a strengthening treatment
Set a subsequent appointment, if required
Professional Dental Hygiene
Professional dental cleanings in Milton Keynes can remove built-up plaque and tartar on the teeth to ensure a healthy smile.
While brushing your teeth at home contributes to a fresh and beautiful smile, routine professional teeth cleanings are needed to maintain the health of your smile. Fresher breath and a whiter, brighter smile are just two benefits of professional teeth hygiene.
Removing plaques and tartar during professional dental hygiene removes millions of bacteria that live and grow in your mouth. Dental cleanings made at our cosmetic dental practice in Milton Keynes can improve your overall dental health and reduce the need for future dental procedures by helping to prevent cavities.
Dr Juliane Scandian and the team at Sorriso Design recommends professional dental cleanings 2 to 3 times a year or 4 times a year if you have extensive dental work in your mouth.
WHO IS AN IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR DENTAL HYGIENE?
All patients are ideal candidates for teeth cleanings. Dental hygiene is an important tool in achieving proper oral health and can help detect an oral disease in its earliest stages.
For some patients, a dental cleaning may be combined with another procedure to treat an underlying oral condition. For example, if the dental hygienist or Dr Juliane detects any signs of gum disease when performing a dental cleaning or oral exam, a customised gum disease treatment plan can be created to treat any symptoms of periodontal disease.
Smile Makeover
A beautiful smile enhances our look and makes us feel more beautiful.
Although most general dentists can restore the function of your teeth, creating a picture-perfect smile requires the experience and artistic skill of a cosmetic dentist.
By blending multiple cosmetic and restorative services, it’s possible to create a beautiful and completely natural-looking smile that you will be proud to show off.
With a smile makeover, you can take advantage of the opportunity to combine multiple cosmetic dentistry procedures to improve your smile’s appearance dramatically.
Treatments that can transform your smile include:
Teeth Whitening
Porcelain Veneers and Crowns
Dental Implants
…and many others
Dental Implants
We have found that dental implants are truly able to enhance the quality of life for our patients in Milton Keynes and surrounding areas. Dental implants can improve our patients’ overall health while helping them gain the confidence that comes from a well-functioning smile that looks good and feels natural.
You have probably had already met someone with Dental implants in Milton Keynes and didn’t even know it. Tooth Implants are completely natural-looking and have saved thousands of beautiful smiles.
“Our priority is to save your teeth and NOT to carry out unnecessary services or dental implant procedures.”
What are dental implants?
Dental implants are essentially comprised of titanium posts. These posts are surgically implanted in the jawbone beneath missing or extracted teeth. These posts support several variations of tooth restorations including single crowns, dental bridges, or a set of dentures.
Dental implants are one of the most revolutionary advances in modern dentistry. Sorriso Design dental implants in Milton Keynes replaces missing teeth, with a result that look, act, and feel like natural teeth.
What is the difference between a dental implant and a denture?
Unlike traditional dentures, dental implants are designed to become a permanent part of your mouth – there is no possibility of slippage or movement along the gums.
Each implant is custom-designed to improve both the form and function of your teeth with natural-looking results.
How long do implants last?
When properly cared for, dental implants can last as long as natural teeth, or longer.
Although the dental implant and implant restoration can’t become decayed, the gum surrounding the dental implant is still susceptible to periodontal disease.
Regular brushing and dental cleaning and checkups are still necessary to ensure your implants remain in good shape.
The process of placing a dental implant in Milton Keynes involves multiple steps, including:
Damaged tooth removal
Jawbone preparation (grafting), when needed
Dental implant placement
Bone growth and healing
Abutment placement
Artificial tooth placement
Gum Treatment
The number one reason why people lose their teeth is undiagnosed periodontal disease. In fact, we know that 90% of all adults have various levels of periodontal (gum) disease.
The disease begins without warning, and in its early stages causes gums to become sore, bleed easily, and contribute to bad breath. As it progresses, teeth loosen and separate; your bite changes and teeth are eventually lost.
For this reason, we incorporate a regimen of careful gum evaluation into each of your visits. Treatments available include:
Gum recontouring
Periodontal plastic surgery
Periodontal flap surgery
We firmly believe our patients benefit from a more conservative approach rather than an aggressive surgical approach. Your comfort always remains our first concern.
Our goal is to diagnose the progression of gum disease and offer an opportunity for you to minimize bone loss and preserve your smile for a lifetime through periodontal maintenance which helps in preventing periodontal diseases.
Gum Disease Treatments
Gum disease treatment in Milton Keynes can improve the symptoms of gum disease. Gum disease, which is also referred to as a periodontal disease, is a serious gum infection that can cause a variety of symptoms.
An early sign that you may have periodontal disease is chronic bad breath. Other common symptoms of gum disease include swollen gums, bright red gums, bleeding gums, and gum tenderness.
Additionally, patients with periodontal disease may experience pain while chewing, have loose teeth, tooth sensitivity, and even pus developing between the teeth and gums. Genetics may also play a role in gum disease in determining who is most susceptible to suffering from it.
Periodontal disease is a gum infection that can severely impact the health of your gums and the bones that support your teeth and gums. Severe gum disease can even cause tooth loss. A build-up of the disease occurs over time either from improper oral hygiene or no dental hygiene regimen at all as well as other factors such as heredity.
In fact, there are 3 periodontal disease stages. If gum disease is detected and treated early, the damage caused by the disease can be decreased. The periodontal disease stages increase in severity as the disease progresses.
Gum disease treatments are meant to correct damage caused by gum disease and restore a healthy smile. Depending on the periodontal disease stage that you’re experiencing, a periodontist in Milton Keynes will determine your gum disease treatment.
While brushing and flossing help remove plaque, these normal at-home oral health habits are insufficient to remove built-up tartar. You may need a periodontal disease treatment like scaling or root planing.
Gum disease treatments are sometimes paired with a course of antibiotics. For severe cases, dental bone grafting is used to stop further tooth loss. You may also need a soft tissue graft to treat gum recession. Pocket reduction surgery and tissue regeneration are also effective techniques to combat gum disease.
Some of the most common types of gum infection treatment include scaling and root planing, medications, gum surgery, and gum grafts.
Dr Juliane Scandian and the staff at Sorriso Design tm would be happy to discuss gum disease treatment in Milton Keynes with you.

Inlay / Onlay and Crown
For patients struggling with fillings or tooth decay, inlays and onlays offer a discreet and permanent alternative to the unsightly metal dental work of the past.
With their sleek design and same-day placement, inlays and onlays are an increasingly popular solution to many common problems.
Inlays and onlays are useful because they preserve as much of as your natural tooth as possible. This makes cleaning your teeth easier. Similarly, some fillings–such as composite and traditional fillings–may shrink with time.
Inlays and onlays don’t shrink and are also extremely durable and stable.
Why is inlay/onlay better than a dental filling in case of large dental caries?
It is much more difficult to fix the filling safely in such a broad cavity. It’s impossible to protect the undamaged surface of the tooth with a simple filling. Where the filling and the natural tooth meet (edge), an injury may happen, that can lead to secondary tooth decay.
In the case of extended dental caries, the area beneath the gum is also damaged, which makes it impossible to create a tooth filling safely and it may lead to secondary tooth decay too.
Ceramic Crowns to Restore Damaged Teeth
Dental crowns protect and restore teeth. In this way, they prevent further tooth damage and maintain a healthy, pleasing smile. Specifically, a tooth crown may be used for the following:
To protect a weak, damaged tooth
To prevent a tooth from breaking apart
To hold together a fractured tooth
Restoring a tooth after a root canal
As the replacement tooth atop a dental implant
As the support for a replacement tooth in a dental bridge
Other dentistry restorations may also be an option, depending on the exact issue you are facing. Inlays, Onlays and dental fillings are a few other restorations commonly used to treat damaged, decayed or weakened teeth.
Ceramic Crowns vs. Other Types of Crowns
I use only all-ceramic crowns because of its advantages, which include:
Natural tooth colour-matched to your teeth
Durable, strong ceramic material
A secure bond is formed between porcelain and enamel
Another common type of crown is made of porcelain fused to a metal base. While that type of crown is quite durable, it tends to cause the tooth to have a grey or silver tint.
Also, a thin line of metal can become visible along your gum line, especially if your gums begin to recede.
These problems are avoided when an all-ceramic crown is used.
Benefits of Inlay and Onlay are:
Durability. Inlays and Onlays can last up to 25 to 30 years with proper care.
Can prevent the need for further dental treatment in the future
More conservative (than dental crowns)
Aesthetically perfect appearance
Doesn’t contain any allergic material
Ceramic Veneers
If you have chipped, cracked, or discoloured teeth, you may want to consider cosmetic ceramic veneers.
What Are Veneers
A veneer is a very thin, tooth-coloured piece of porcelain (like a false fingernail or shell, but more durable) that is bonded on top of your own tooth to cover the front of the teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers are great because they look like natural teeth and don’t require a major procedure.
The preparation for and application of dental veneers can usually be completed in about two to three visits over the course of a six-week period.
Ceramic Veneers are Versatile!
With their ability to correct cosmetic malocclusions such as issues with tooth spacing and positioning, veneers are sometimes referred to as “instant orthodontics.” Indeed, for some patients, these cosmetic restorations serve as a wonderful alternative to more invasive orthodontic options.
Ceramic veneers may also serve as a stand-alone solution for the correction of many cosmetic problems impacting a single smile – allowing them to provide a complete smile makeover in some instances.
Problems Fixed by Dental Venners Include:
Teeth with worn enamel that is dull and stained
Unevenness in teeth caused by chipping
Gaps that are present between teeth
Broken and discoloured teeth

How to Improve Your Smile With Cosmetic Dentistry
Outstanding cosmetic dental treatments results often come from a combination of different cosmetic dentistry treatments.
To get the smile you wish for, Sorriso Design we might combine the placement of a porcelain veneer with teeth whitening or the placement of an inlay / onlay.
Cosmetic dentistry may sometimes take the form of the removal of old material from your teeth, or the addition of new material to your teeth, in order to provide a smoother finish.
