Anterior Repositioning Splint

September 07, 2015

This is also known as a directive splint as it directs or manages where the condyles rest. Made from acrylic, the ARS splint is useful for optimizing the jaw position and contact between the biting surfaces of the upper and lower teeth. It aids in relieving TMJ joint displacement by moving the lower jaw in the forward and lower position. The anterior repositioning dental splint is preferred in the case of locking jaws or in the presence of a clicking sound on opening or closing the mouth. The anterior repositioning splint is generally fitted on the upper jaw and is advised for a short duration only. The purpose is to relieve the symptoms and not reposition the jaws.
