Dental Implants
A dental implant is the ideal permanent replacement for a single missing tooth or multiple missing teeth. This solution is esthetic and functions like a natural tooth. Dental implants can also be used to anchor a removable complete denture. About Dental Implants Dental implants have been around for more than 50 years. They are well-proven and constantly requested by patients who want to replace their damaged, decayed or missing teeth. Fundamentally, dental implants are made of small titanium screws fitted within damaged teeth. Titanium is the best metal choice because it can promote continuous healing while fitted in the jawbone. Dental implants also act as artificial teeth roots which can serve as a base for larger dental bridges and dentures. You will definitely look great with a dental implant, and people won’t even know that you had the procedure! Why Choose Us? At Christina Brinda DDS, we work with each individual patient to find a lasting solution for a healthier smile.

Complete Dentures
Complete dentures are made to replace all missing teeth. Two main types of complete dentures are “conventional” or “immediate” dentures. A conventional denture is made after all the teeth are removed and the tissues have healed, which can take 6 to 8 weeks. During this healing time the patient will not have any teeth. Immediate dentures are made in advance and immediately placed after all the teeth are removed. In this way the patient will not be without teeth during the healing process. After the tissues will shrink and heal, adjustments will need to be made. The process of getting a removable dental appliance requires several appointments, and can take several weeks or months. Highly accurate impressions or molds and measurements are taken and used to create your custom removable dental appliance. There will be several “try-in” appointments to ensure proper color, shape, and fit. At the final appointment, your dentist will adjust and place the appliance.

Porcelain Crowns
A crown (or cap) covers the entire tooth surface to protect and strengthened the tooth structure and restore the tooth to its original shape and size. What are porcelain crowns? Porcelain crowns or tooth colored crowns are the most popular type of crown because they look like your natural teeth. They are highly durable and will last many years. However they may eventually need to be replaced like most dental restorations. Porcelain crowns are made to match the color, size, and shape of your teeth giving you a natural and beautiful smile. Reasons for crowns: • Decayed teeth • Large teeth • Broken or fractured teeth • Fractured fillings or restorations • Cosmetic improvement of teeth • Tooth has been treated with a root canal

Dental Bridges
What are Dental Bridges? A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance that replaces missing teeth. A dental bridge is made of porcelain fused to metal material or of a solid all porcelain material. Porcelain fixed bridges are esthetic because they resemble your natural teeth. The bridge consists of two crowns that go over two anchoring or abutment teeth and are attached to pontics or artificial teeth, thus filling the gap created by one or more missing teeth. Dental bridges are durable and can last many years, however at times they may need replacement due to normal wear. Reasons for a Dental bridge: • Restore chewing and speaking ability. – Fill space of missing teeth. • Maintain facial shape and restore your smile. – Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position. • Change from a removable partial denture to a permanent dental bridge

Tooth Whitening
Options Available: In office bleaching With this procedure patients will notice their teeth getting whiter the same day. The bleaching material is placed directly on the teeth and patients will notice an improvement of the color of their teeth in just one hour. At the first appointment, impressions or molds are taken of your teeth to make clear plastic custom trays. At the second appointment, the trays are tried on and instructions are given. The trays are worn with a specific whitening solution usually for 30 minutes a day. The patient is instructed to bleach at home for 10-14 days. Reasons for whitening: • Yellow and brown stained teeth. • Excessive fluoridation during tooth development known as fluorosis. • Stained teeth due to medications. • Everyday wear of enamel or outer tooth layer. At our North Canton practice, we offer both kinds of tooth whitening procedures to Improve the color of your teeth and give you a bright and beautiful smile.

Extractions
There are certain times when a tooth is non-restorable, meaning that it cannot be repaired so unfortunately the tooth has to be extracted or pulled. A bone graft may be recommended to help the extraction site heal and have sufficient bone. Reasons for Extractions • Tooth breaks down below the gum tissue • Severe bone loss and tooth is very mobile • Tooth has severe infection and does not respond to root canal • Tooth is fractured on root surface Replacements for Missing Teeth • Removable dental appliance • Fixed Dental Bridge • Dental Implant

Root Canals
Endodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry that deals with the complex structures found inside the teeth. It relates to the tooth pulp, tissues, nerves, and arterioles. What does an endodontic procedure involve? Initially, a local anesthetic will be administered, and a dental dam (protective sheet) will be placed to ensure that the surgical area remains free of saliva during the procedure. An opening will be created in the surface of the tooth, and the pulp will be completely removed using small handheld files and instruments. The canal space will then be shaped, cleaned, and filled with gutta-percha. Gutta-percha is a biocompatible material. A temporary filling will be placed to restore functionality to the tooth prior to the permanent restoration procedure. Then a permanent restoration or crown will be placed. If you have questions or concerns about these endodontic procedures, please contact Dr Christina Brinda DDS in North Canton for a consultation.

Nightguards
A nightguard is made to protect a patient’s teeth if they are clenching/grinding their teeth while sleeping. The patient will have upper and lower impressions of their teeth taken and then the appliance is fabricated from the models. The patient is then instructed to wear the appliance at night or while sleeping.

Full Mouth Rehabilitation
Full mouth rehabilitation means actually rebuilding or replacing all of the teeth in a person’s mouth. A combination of dental procedures is used in full mouth rehabilitation. Full Mouth Rehabilitation Procedures • Extractions of non-restorable teeth • Periodontal Therapy • Orthodontic Treatment • Composite fillings • Tooth whitening • Veneers • Crowns • Bridges • Partials • Dentures • Implants

Oral Cancer Screenings
During a recall cleaning appointment, the dentist or dental hygienist will conduct an oral cancer screening to check the head and neck and all intraoral tissues such as the tongue, lips, cheeks, gum tissue, palate, and throat. Oral cancer screenings are important in early detection and treatment of oral cancer

Composite Fillings
Restore and Repair Decayed, Chipped, or Cracked Teeth with Composite Fillings in North Canton What is a Composite Filling? A composite (tooth colored) filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, or fractures. The decayed or broken portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled with a composite filling. There are many types of filling materials available but composite fillings are used mostly. Composite fillings are tooth colored and can be matched to the color of the existing natural teeth. Composite fillings are very durable, and can last many years, however as with most dental restorations the composite fillings may need to be replaced. Reasons for Composite Fillings • Decayed teeth • Cracked or broken teeth • Closing space between teeth • Chipped teeth • Worn teeth

Periodontal Therapy
Laser Assisted Periodontal Therapy uses a soft tissue diode laser with a certain wavelength to pinpoint and destroy bacteria and infected tissue from the periodontal pockets. This treatment can be used in conjunction with scaling and root planing. The actual word “periodontal” means “around the tooth.” Periodontal disease (also known as periodontitis) is an inflammatory condition which affects the supporting and surrounding soft tissues of the tooth and can extend into the bone around the tooth. Gingivitis which is a bacterial infection of the gum tissue often precedes periodontal disease. A bacterial infection affects the gums when the toxins contained in plaque begin to irritate and cause gum tissue inflammation. Once this bacterial infection colonizes in the gum tissue pockets around the teeth, it becomes a lot more difficult to remove and treat. Periodontal disease is a progressive condition that can lead to the destruction of the connective tissue and surrounding bone.

Partial Dentures
What are Partial Dentures? A removable dental appliance replaces missing teeth and surrounding tissue. It is made to resemble natural teeth and enhance your smile. The appliance can also improve chewing, speech, and digestion. The appliance is very durable and can last many years but may need to be repaired or remade due to normal use and wear. A partial denture is made to replace several missing teeth and it prevents other teeth from shifting. The partial can have a metal framework with acrylic and teeth to replace the missing teeth or it can be made from a type of an all acrylic material without any metal.

Dental Prophylaxis
Dental Cleanings A dental prophylaxis is a cleaning procedure performed to thoroughly clean the teeth. Routine dental cleanings are important in stopping progression of periodontal disease and gingivitis. Periodontal disease and gingivitis occur when bacteria from plaque colonize on the gingival (gum) tissue, either above or below the gum line. The bacteria colonies cause serious inflammation and irritation which produce a chronic inflammatory response in the body. Then the body begins to systematically destroy gum and bone tissue, making the teeth shift, become unstable, or completely fall. The pockets between the gums and teeth become deeper and so house more bacteria. This bacteria may travel via the bloodstream and infect other parts of the body. Reasons for prophylaxis/teeth cleaning Prophylaxis is an excellent procedure to help keep the oral cavity in good health and also stop the progression of gum disease.

Cosmetic Dental Procedures • Tooth colored composite fillings or bonding. • In office tooth whitening procedure. • Take home custom trays for at home whitening. • Cosmetic Veneers. • Ceramic dental crowns or dental bridges. • Implant crowns.

Cosmetic Bonding
