Zhengyan (Maria) Wang DDS, PhD

Hello, I am Dr. Zhengyan (Maria) Wang.  I am a board certified pediatric dentist. Treating children and being able to educate them on good long-term oral health habits gives me a sense of pride and accomplishment. It is a very fulfilling and rewarding profession. Originally from China, I graduated from West China University of Medical Sciences in 1996 with DDS and MS. I continued my education at UNC-Chapel Hill, completing a PhD in Oral Biology combined with a three year residency program in Pediatric Dentistry Specialty at UNC Dental School. As part of my academic accomplishments, I actively participated in teaching and scientific research, receiving postdoctoral fellowships in Clinical Dental Research and Tissue Engineering and Regeneration. I served as a full time faculty member at both UNC and later at University of Michigan. I cherish my unique experiences, which helped me to approach clinical situations from a much broader perspective and to practice evidence based dentistry for the very best interest of patients. Moving back to North Carolina, I obtained my DDS from UNC in 2013 for NC licensure requirement. Currently I am an adjunct faculty at UNC and collaborator of an NIH funded project. My husband Tao Gao is also a dentist. We have two daughters, with whom we enjoy spending time together reading, walking and traveling.
