Maintaining great oral health is very simple, but that doesn't mean it's easy. The challenge is the consistency that it requires. Many people get all the supplies that they need but just after a few days, they are back to their old habit of brushing once a day and not using any other products they got. Here is what you need to do to improve oral health.

1.  Incorporate Fluoride

Fluoride has been proven to be extremely beneficial for teeth. It helps to counteract the acid that is produced by bacteria in the mouth. Using fluoride-based toothpaste and drinking fluoridated water can help protect your teeth and gums from a range of problems. In fact, it can even help the teeth to regenerate the protective layer of enamel. The more fluoride our teeth are exposed to, in whatever form that may be, the better it is for them.

2.  Practice Good Oral Hygiene

At the very basic level, you should be practicing good oral hygiene. This includes brushing your teeth regularly, flossing, and also using mouthwash once or twice a day. This helps to remove all the harmful dirt and bacteria in your mouth and limits the amount of damage that these things can do to your teeth and gums.

3.  Take Supplements

In the same way that there are supplements for your body, there are supplements for your oral health too. These supplements can help with your teeth health, gum health, and overall physical health. Many of these supplements come in the form of pills that you place in your mouth and allow to dissolve. They release all the beneficial compounds that your mouth needs to stay healthy. These are not prescription based, so they can easily form a regular part of your oral healthcare routine.

4.  Avoid Tobacco

One of the most dangerous things for your oral health is tar, and tobacco is a great source of it. Whether you chew tobacco or smoke it, it produces a lot of tar that hurts your teeth, gums, and tongue. Any kind of tobacco will be harmful to your oral health, and even vaping is not as safe as many assume. If you are addicted to nicotine there are other ways to get that into your system. Ideally, you should be working to remove this dependency entirely.

5.  Visit Your Dentist

Make sure you are visiting your dentist regularly. If you have any oral health problems, you need to get these checked out as soon as possible before they develop into a bigger problem. Moreover, you should be visiting your dentist every six months just to get a standard checkup done and to make sure everything is still good and healthy.

6.  Remember your Tongue

Most people ignore the tongue when it comes to oral health. Try to gently brush your tongue when you brush your teeth. Alternatively, you can also get a tongue scraper to help you clean your tongue. Just like all other parts of your mouth, dirt and grime can also build up on your tongue, so make sure you clean it.

Making these changes to your routine will be a little challenging at first. Maintaining oral health is not very easy to do and people often struggle with it. However, as you continue to do these things, it will become a habit and you will get used to them. Practice these things regularly to ensure you have great oral health for many years to come.
